"switch hitter"

"Switch Hitter" is a performance that I concocted in Spring 2005*, after walking into a bathroom stall at San Francisco State University, and seeing my own name scrawled underneath the words "Switch Hitter." The performance uses humorous gestures, music, and imagery to explore the violence of being "outed," and also to reclaim sexual identity after it has been twisted by hate and turned into an insult: "bisexual," "kinky," "slut," "fag," or "pervert." This video is intended to serve as a backdrop for the live Human performance. Special thanks to Lee Manansala for recording the digital stills and bathroom sounds.
